Support measures for people affected by the damage caused by adverse weather phenomena in the month of February 2026

Protection for inactivity due to the February 2026 floods in Andalusia and Extremadura

All those workers who contribute to unemployment insurance in their employment relationship and whose activity has been affected by the effects of the floods in certain municipalities of Andalusia and Extremadura (hereinafter ERTE-inundaciones) must be included in an ERTE by their company and will be entitled to a contributory benefit for contract suspension or reduction of working hours, unless there is a situation of incompatibility.

This extraordinary benefit does not require prior contribution periods (it is not necessary to have worked and contributed for a minimum of 360 days). There is also no consumption of contributed periods (it does not use up contributions).

If you are entitled to this benefit, you will receive 70% of the base reguladora* throughout the duration of this situation, always based on your inactivity, that is, the work you have stopped performing due to the floods.

*Base reguladora: average of the unemployment contribution bases for the last 180 days contributed or a shorter period, if you have worked for less time.

Information

People affected by an ERTE as a result of the February 2026 floods

Remember that if your company is in an ERTE, whether due to force majeure or economic, technical, organizational, or production (ETOP) reasons caused by the effects of the February floods, you should not apply for the benefit individually; instead, your company will apply on your behalf and with your authorization through the submission of a collective application.

Once your ERTE floods benefit has been approved, SEPE will send an SMS to the mobile phone number indicated in the collective application, informing you whether the benefit has been granted with or without children in your care, based on the data we have at SEPE. The SMS will also provide information on how to access this website to explain how to update that family information if necessary.

Your company will also be responsible for informing SEPE of your return to activity (termination of the benefit) when it occurs, as well as any changes to your working hours or other situations (vacation, maternity/paternity leave, temporary disability, etc.).
